You can now request salary changes for your hires directly in Borderless without submitting a support ticket. Because Borderless is the hire’s legal employer, salary changes require updates to their employment documents and payroll. Submitting a request starts that process, and a dedicated Customer Success Manager (CSM) stays with your request from submission through completion.
How to submit a request
- Open the hire’s page under Hires and select Create request.
- Choose Salary Change. The hire’s details will fill in automatically.
- Confirm the contract the change applies to. If more than one is listed, select the active contract. If you’re unsure, contact your Borderless team before submitting.
- Confirm the Statement of Work signatory. This defaults to the original signatory; change it if that person has left your company or should not sign this amendment.
- Enter the new salary.
- Choose the requested effective date and submit your request.
After you submit, you'll see a confirmation. Please note that the hire’s profile will not show the updated salary until the process is complete.
About the effective date
- The date you choose is the requested effective date. Borderless will confirm the final effective date after reviewing the request. This is usually the date you requested, unless document signing or payroll timing makes it unworkable. We recommend choosing a date at least 1 week ahead so there's enough time for review and signatures.
- The effective date is when the new salary or rate takes effect, not when the hire is first paid at the new rate. The first payment at the new rate is made on the next scheduled payroll date and may be prorated if the effective date falls mid-pay period.
Examples:
- June 1 effective date: With monthly payroll paid on the last day of the month, the first payment at the new rate would be June 30.
- June 15 effective date: The June 30 payment would be prorated to reflect the time before and after the new rate took effect.
Documents and signatures
Two amendments are generated and must be fully signed before the change takes effect:
- Statement of Work (SOW) amendment: Sent to your signatory by email for e-signature after Borderless approves the request. Borderless countersigns it.
- Employment agreement (EA) amendment: Generated after the SOW amendment is signed. Your hire signs it from their Borderless home page, and Borderless countersigns.
Once both amendments are fully signed, Borderless updates payroll, and the new salary and pay history will then appear on the hire’s profile.
FAQ
When should I submit a salary change?
As early as you can. Both amendments must be signed before the effective date, and payroll must be updated before the payroll lock date for the changes to apply in that cycle. Requests submitted close to a payroll date may take effect in the following cycle.
What if my request needs changes or can't be approved?
Your Borderless team will contact you with the details and next steps; you can submit an updated request afterward.
Will my hire be notified?
Yes, your hire will be asked to sign the EA amendment as part of the process.
Can I backdate a salary change?
Effective dates should generally be forward-looking. If you need a change applied retroactively, contact your Borderless team before submitting.
Where can I track the request?
Although we don’t offer in-platform tracking at this point, a dedicated Customer Success Manager (CSM) stays with your request from submission through completion.
